There are a few things that you do out of your own free will, but there are many that are chores that need to be done any which way. You just don’t have a choice.
At times, unexpected things just come up, and you have to take charge. Even if you want to, you can’t wish such situations away.
If we have to do things and do not have a choice, then might as well enjoy doing them. Complaining or getting negative is not going to help at all. Most often doing the chore with a negative mindset can mess things up and you may land up doing it all over again.
However, if you choose to be positive, you may find something interesting or fun to keep you in a happy place. The good news is that most of the regular chores can be done while multi-tasking. Maybe, you could play some good music or an audio book in the background. Use technology to your advantage. Maybe using your Bluetooth, you could call a friend and catch up while you are using your hands to finish your daily chores.
Such simple distractions will actually keep you in the present and enable you to enjoy the moment.
After all, how much concentration do you really require while doing your routine chores like cooking or doing the laundry?
Trust me, if you add some fun distraction to each of your chores then your mind will actually program itself to do the two things simultaneously.
If you have a positive attitude you will find ways to keep you in a happy state and all the routine work will get finished smoothly and quickly.
We often experience getting stuck in traffic jams. This is another situation where we can do nothing about it. We are stuck in the true sense of the word. So I feel that there is no point in complaining or grumbling as that will drain us out completely and get us all worked up and irritated, which may lead to a lot of things going wrong for the rest of the day.
So when stuck in a traffic jam I make all my pending phone calls and finish my emails (only if I am not driving! ). Another favorite activity of mine is to play some comedy on my smart phone or if I have company, then have everyone tell a few jokes. With laughter as our companion, we lose track of time and often forget that we are stuck in a traffic jam. We are in our present and enjoying every bit of the time together. Honestly, where is the time to listen to these comedies or jokes otherwise?
Knowing that being stuck in traffic jams is a regular occurence, I keep myself prepared with water, fruits, snacks and my phone charger in the car. This way, I am never worked up or irritable when I finally reach my destination. My phone and I am charged to face the day ahead in a very happy frame of mind.
This way I enjoy the journey in every sense of the word. ????
